Murad Flute

Murtuza Kabir Murad is a renowned flute player in Bangladesh. The fourth child to famous homeopathy physician, Dr. Ali Ahmed and his wife Latifa Ahmed, Murad was born on the 31st December 1968. Murad is the only member from his non musical family, having exposure to the world of music. Once started as an amateur, Murad is now a professional musician.

After his S.S.C. examination in 1985, Murad started learning Tabla from Khandaker Khairul Anam, a student of famous Ustad of the Indian subcontinent, Shakhaowat Hussain. Under his tutelage, he played tabla for eight years at a stretch. He then learned to play tabla from famous Ustad from Delhi, Ustad Akram Kha, for a short period of time. In 1987 after his H.S.C. examination, Murad started learning to play the flute from Allauddin Shaheb besides continuing with his Tabla learning. After learning to play flute from Allauddin Shaheb, he moved to the U.S.A. for pursuing higher education at the Wichita State University. But failing to adjust in the U.S.A., Murad returned to Bangladesh after two years. He started practicing music again. He then started learning Flute and the Shanai from Mr. Shamsur Rahman. He learned from him for four years at a stretch. Then in 1997 came a memorable moment in Murad’s life. He got the rare opportunity of meeting (the) famous flute player of the Indian subcontinent Pandit Hariprashad Chawrasia. During that short meeting Murad learned from him the techniques to blow flute properly, to play the fingers and many other important tricks. Basically it was from Pandit Hariprashad, he realized the difference between the Flute made from bamboo and classical music. Not only Murad is a veteran flute player, he is an expert of its making also. The specialty of Murad’s flute is its sound quality, perfect tunes, melodious tone and easy to play.

Murad is the author of “Shahaj Bashi Sheekkhya”, the first and the only flute learning book in Bangladesh. Murad’s flutes are not only on high demand in Bangladesh but also in abroad. Besides playing flute professionally, Murad teaches how to play it to many students in Bangladesh and abroad. Murad basically performs in solo for classical music in flute. He is also a veteran Shanai player and tabla player. He has been working as a Teacher of tabla in the Classical Music Department of Bulbul Lalita Kala Academy (BAFA) for a long time. He is an artist with the capability to spellbound his audiences by his solo classical flute performance.
